Doll has heart?
It may seem like a childish question. Perhaps it is precisely because of that that it is so interesting.
Why, right after her, another one appears:
What gives something value to us?
Lucien likes dolls.
But it is in the meeting with Dona Flora that she lives something different: instead of simply receiving a ready-made doll, she will have to participate in its construction.
Choose. Wait. Experiment. Make mistakes. Get angry. Continue. Imagine what does not yet exist.
Until a piece of fabric starts to take shape. And receives a name:
Esmeralda.
At this moment, a question silently appears within the story itself:
Why does this doll look different from the others?
Perhaps because there is something of Lúcien in her now.
Time. Attempt. Desire. Frustration. Care. Choices. Experience.
Coração de Boneca part of this narrative to create encounters with children and educators where literature, art, imagination, and experience intertwine.
Three characters. Three positions in the experience.
Lúcien
a child who experiences
Lucien wants. Gets distracted. Gets irritated. Tries. Can't manage. Tries again.
She does not represent an ideal child.
Represents something much more interesting: a living child.
It can just transform itself into what it is not yet ready for.
Mrs. Flora
The adult who does not steal the experience
Mrs. Flora knows how to sew. It would be much faster to have Lúcien make the doll. But she doesn't.
She remains. She guides. Helps when necessary.
Maintain frustration without eliminating the difficulty.
This may be one of the most important questions that the character returns to educators:
Helping a child without taking her place.

That which is born from the crossing
Before being a doll, Esmeralda was a possibility.
Fabric. Line. Image. Desire.
After the experience, it becomes something else. Carries history.
And it is perhaps just that which we do when we learn: we do not receive just something.
We build a relationship with what we can live.
The book doesn't end when the story ends.
In the Coração de Boneca project, literature does not appear as an excuse to teach a “moral of the story”.
She remains literature.
But it opens doors.
From the narrative can be born:

- Artistic creation;
- experiences with fabrics, shapes, colors, and textures;
- Construction of one's own doll or puppet.;
- Conversations about anger, joy, fear, and frustration;
- New narratives;
- Different endings.;

The child is not invited to repeat: “I need to be persistent”.
She is placed in a situation where she may discover, living:
“I haven't managed yet — what do I do now?”
The difference may seem small. Pedagogically, it's enormous.
